          Congregation Knesseth Israel Cemetery

Congregation Knesseth Israel owns and administers an Orthodox Jewish Cemetery for our congregants.

The Cemetery is located off Maple St in Ellington's town center. Click here for a map and directions.

For routine matters (e.g. maintenance, plot sales to congregants, etc), please call Cemetery Administrator Alan Friedman at 860-875-6221 at his workplace during regular business hours.

If you are arranging a funeral, please do NOT contact the cemetery directly. Rather you should allow a funeral home with a valid Hashgacha to make the arrangements for you.

Some examples of area funeral homes that perform Kosher Orthodox funerals are: Weinstein's Mortuary of Hartford, Ladd-Turkington of Vernon, and the Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Springfield.

Once contacted by the funeral home, Alan or his representative will arrange to meet with a member of the family at the cemetery so as to agree on the correct location to dig the grave.

The fee charged by the cemetery to open a grave is exactly double that which the grave digger charges the cemetery itself for his services. The fee can vary due to soil conditions (e.g. frozen solid in January), overtime pay due to weekends and holidays, and just normal inflation. Other than the rare plot sale, burials are the only income of the cemetery, and the fees generated only just cover the costs of routine maintenance of the cemetery. Improvements to the cemetery, such as the recent re-paving of the road, have come out of donations. If you'd like to donate to the cemetery's account, contact Alan Friedman at the number above.
